Today I am sitting in a fifth floor walk-up in Harlem, grappling with the closure of my freshman year of life. There are still a few weeks before we get to one year since graduation but even so, I am amazed at what this blog has chronicled: major moves, contracts, day jobs, personal triumphs, and of course mundane goings on that I pretend are worthy to be read about with a bit of commentary.
To honor the blog's 1st birthday, here are 5 things that hadn't made it on due to lack of category. Be free, randoms!
1) From Reclaiming Christianity by A.W. Tozer, read mostly at Dunkin' Donuts in Cohoes, NY. Always love to hear a titan of the faith endorse reckless living :)
"It is not always desirable to be on the mountain all the time, and certainly, I do not enjoy being surrounded by the enemy, but I do want to stay in the place where I have to have God. To be in lineal descent and spiritual succession I have to live a little bit hazardously."
2) Sad, sad diet food. In times of particular calorie counting, I have in moments of desperation, turned to whatever combinations I can find within my grocery supply that won't bust the day. I'm fairly sure all of these were consumed in late hours of the night. You may find it strange that I took pictures, but while I was making them I knew how strange they were, and wanted recognize their remarkable oddity.
Left: July 20- oroweat sandwich thin with creamy peanut butter and vanilla almond special k
Bottom: August 17- trader joe's nonfat vanilla yogurt and betty crocker nonpareil rainbow sprinkles

Right: December 3- marshmallow on a starbucks spill stopper over an evergreen scented candle
3) The "Other" Jobs. I've owned up to temping and the writing, but there is so much more. In recent weeks I 'worked on a Broadway show'. By this I mean I was the man-power behind delivering opening night gifts for those involved with Baby, It's You. Glamorous tasks included waiting in office building lobbies and running up and down the stairs of the Broadhurst theater to dressing rooms. I also worked a few days at a sample sale assisting the old and foreign women in their discount needs. Downside: 10 hrs of standing and being snapped at (literally) by impatient women. Upside: free lunch.
"Nothing can seem extraordinary until you have discovered what is ordinary. Belief in miracles, far from depending on an ignorance of the laws of nature, is only possible in so far as those laws are known. We have already seen that if you begin by ruling out the supernatural you will perceive no miracles. We must now add that you will equally perceive no miracles until you believe that nature works according to regular laws. If you have not yet noticed that the sun always rises n the East you will see nothing miraculous about his rising one morning in the West."
5) Inappropriate children's t-shirts. For some reason unknown to me, at a Goodwill on the UES, there is a whole host of children's sized booze shirts. It's not so wrong it's right; its just really really wrong.
Here's to a successful year of blogging, and side effects yet to come!

Happy Bloggerversary! I have loved every update. Thank you and please keep them coming!
