My day job is Crumby!

In the best possible way!

I recently hit my 90 days of work at Crumbs Bake Shop! Don't worry, ESPN is still doing its part to keep me afloat, but the reliable paycheck has been from sweets. All summer I've been getting paid comfortably above minimum wage to drink free iced coffees, taste tasty cupcakes, and help people pick out exciting treats!

We're gonna go after updating you on this grown-up reality of any actor's life with my favorite poetic structure: the acrostic.

C onvenient loaction. The store I work at is just a few minutes on the train, and a totally walkable distance. It's also just a few blocks from church, making Sunday shifts the best they can be. Its also across the street from a Whole Foods which means yummy dinner breaks, and now that I know how to eat cheap there, I get savory sustenance for under $5.
R oaming. Because of my willingness to pick up extra shifts (that
sounds nicer than desperation, right?) I have become something of the district slut. I have worked at 6 stores that are not my own. Sometimes that extra distance to a different store or a different pace of work can be a little much. At worst, it leaves me feeling like this guy. He made it from the bakery to the store but unfortunately, with a name like "Smiley Face", not into the hands of a paying customer.
U niforms, are shockingly cute. The color scheme of our garb is licorice black, chocolate, buttercream, and cinnamon. We have cutsie bandanas that I wear 'Rosie the Riveter' style, aprons that can be made to flatter one's waistline, and a variety of shirt options. Best of all, every shift is a jeans and running shoes shift. Like a straight boy with no goal other than comfort I work away from the painful world of shi shi restaurants.
M emorization. It is a strong suit of mine, but starting this job included so much mixing and matching of butter-creams and garnishes and ganaches! Sometimes when my brain is extra tired I have to use hand gestures to get through an accurate description of the product.

B ruins! I know you're not surprised. One of our jobs is to write on cakes and cupcakes upon request so naturally, I have to practice. This wax paper was fortunate enough to wear some noble colors in the interest of this. We also had a special order come in one day that had me wishing I knew the people with such impeccable taste who placed it.
S elf-control, is not an option. Let's be real, 8 hours in a cupcake shoppe and things are bound to get eaten. The company policy is that you can eat whatever you want while you're at work, but you still have to work. At first this didn't make sense, but it does now. So while you may be capable of eating 5 cupcakes at work, you're not allowed to lay in a ball in the corner and cry about your tummy hurting. 2 cupcakes however, can totally accommodate the workload and a sweet-toothe :P
