Sometimes that change is move #9 since you graduated from college.
Sometimes you can't find an apartment that meets your basic requirements.
-safe
-vermin free
-positive
-under $1000/month
Sometimes you point to buildings you could never afford and claim them as your own.
Sometimes God takes your jokes seriously.
December and the first half of January I lived in the swankiest apartment there ever was on the Upper West Side (not even Morningside technically!). At the very intersection where I had pointed to a KFC and said "There, right there above KFC here in this neighborhood, that's my new apartment", I got a sublet. And it was above a non-chicken smelling Duane Reade! UPGRADE!
2 bedrooms.
Affordable.
Elevator.
16th floor.
I know, it sounds like I made it up.
The view from my window at sunrise pretty much explains the glow I had every time I considered my fortune in living there. The place provided shelter for friends and space for company. I am completely convinced its the nicest place I will ever live in New York which is a little sad, but mostly remarkable and sweet. (Un)fortunately, 5 days after moving, my circumstances changed and my stay was dramatically shortened. Still, I will always have the memory of the glory month at my grown-up apartment on the UWS.

Gorgeous! I think there are way more pretty apartments coming your way :)
