Jobs I Don't Have- Pt. 2

The next in the great line! In honor of auditions past and sleep lost: The Jobs I Don't Have in all their glory! 1st Edition- NYC!

La Cage Aux Folles on Broadway (1)
Audition Date: 9/29/10
Location: Ripley-Grier Studios, New York
Highlight: being so excited for my first audition in my first week in NYC...only to find out it was actually my first not audition.
Lesson Learned: double check the audition day. but better early than late.

La Cage Aux Folles on Broadway (2)
Audition Date: 9/30/10
Location: Ripley-Grier Studios, New York
Highlight: seen in one group. equity and non-equity. EQUALITY FOR ALL!
Lesson Learned: fewer roles for women = fewer women at the audition. good deal.

A Chorus Line @ North Shore Theater, MA
Location: NOLA Studios, New York
Highlight: spending hour one in the rain outside the building @ 8am? maybe hour 6 when we were told to come back after the men had danced? maybe hour 10 when we were finally seen? maybe getting cut?...hmm. its hard to decide.
Lesson Learned: when they ask if everyone already knows the dance and you don't, just raising your hand is not enough.

Beauty and the Beast Tour, non-union dance call
Audition Date: 10/4/10
Location: Ripley-Grier Studios, New York
Highlight: hearing a girl tell a story beforehand to her friends about the chorus line audition the week before and how some poor girl raised her hand when they asked if anyone didn't know the dance and they didn't see her so they taught it real fast anyway...sounds familiar.
Lesson Learned: when girls tell you before hand how hard the combination is and how they're so happy they learned it already, 3 times, the 3 times they already auditioned for this show- there's nothing to be intimidated by- there's a reason this is their 4th audition for the same show.

Crazy for You @ Maltz Jupiter Theater, FL
Audition Date: 10/5/10
Location: Pearl Studios, New York
Highlight: the choreographer before we started learning the combo, "So, this is gonna be a lot more tap than you're used to seeing in Crazy for You. We're looking for exceptionally talented tap dancers". Great.
Lesson Learned: I cannot do 4 pullbacks into 4 wings in a circle. At all.

Encores! Season, NYC
Audition Date: 10/5/10
Location: Pearl Studios, New York
Highlight: not having to leave the building to get there.
Lesson Learned: don't travel. don't travel. dance underneath yourself. don't travel. dance underneath yourself....

Billy Elliot, Broadway/Nat. Tour
Audition Date: 10/7/10
Location:Chelsea Studios, New York
Highlight: Matthew Broderick in the hallway, and the girl who told him how much she liked his work, without being able to, upon request, name a single one of his works.
Lesson Learned: turns out the rhythm of your tap dancing matters just as much as the number of sounds you make.

The Awesome 80's Prom, Off-Broadway
Audition Date: 10/9/10
Location: Ripley-Grier Studios
Highlight: thinking a girl on the subway was going to the audition too cause of the way she was dressed, then seeing her walk the other direction out of the station.
Lesson Learned: I'm still funny even when I haven't been really trying to be in a couple months. Be confident!

West Side Story, Broadway
Audition Date: 10/12/10
Location: Chelsea Studios, New York
Highlight: thanks to a rearranged headshot pile, going last not first, thus ensuring more think time!
Lesson Learned: There are a shocking number of Latina girls that will show up for a WSS audition who you have never seen at any other auditions.
