Unique Week and News Lose

We're the midpoint of Cabaret and I couldn't be prouder to be a part of this remarkable show. The directors and entire cast have created (and commit to creating for every audience, every performance) something that is really powerful and entertaining. The highlight of the run so far has definitely been Saturday night. If a standing ovation wasn't enough, we were called back onstage for a second curtain call. Now, I realize that may have been more because of our ridiculously talented leads than background dancer #4, but I still got to enjoy that experience.

We also had a little treat on opening! The new Dean of TFT came and saw us and took a few photos with the cast.

Now you may not recognize Teri Schwartz, but oh, do you know her work as a producer!
I actually enjoyed Sister Act on my Sunday off between waking up at 11 and seeing a production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in the evening. (which by the way was fantastic! the cast was hilarious and whoever assisted on the choreography did some nice work too)...(that was me)...

In other fun happenings of late, and more Sister Act related news, I attended (meaning worked) at a party to kick off the 2010 Festival of New American Musicals! It was at Bette Midler's voice teacher's house and in attendance was Kathy Najimy of the Sister Act movies. (the nun who sings 'Gravy' at the bar) There were some other fancy Broadway type people there too, but lets be honest, the jovial nun from a childhood favorite- a film that combined religion and oldies- was the only star I cared about.

I also attended my first (and last) MARGARITA MONDAY!

Acapulco is a very reliable college Mexican restaurant that I have admittedly under appreciated in my time in Westwood. With just days to go- it seemed like the time to attend! Mango blended. Delicious @ $2.75!

Another college first- I wrote a critical email to the Daily Bruin. Now, I love the Bruin. It has provided me with sudoku and crossword puzzles for everyday of boring lectures and long rehearsals I've needed them as well as employing my charming and talented sorority lil' sis. The Daily Bruin, however, had an EPIC FAIL with its article about Cabaret. It wasn't just bad, it was misinformed and tacky. Here's a taste of what I sent to the A&E editor...
...Thank you for publishing the article and teaching me a valuable lesson: The Daily Bruin is unconcerned with accuracy and understanding the subjects it writes upon; or at least Mr. --- is.

(...angry paragraphs about action described in the article which never appears on stage, encouraging them to actually send reporters the campus events the cover, correction of theatrical terminology that was misused...)

....For your convenience, below is a website that you may suggest to your journalists who need basic information regarding plays and other mysteriously artsy subjects. I checked it out myself and was pleased to see that its information was more accurate and its insight was far greater than that of this example of Daily Bruin authorship. I hope it will help to avoid these situations in the future.

It purged a lot of the anger i was feeling toward the article. I am still awaiting a reply, but regardless, I feel I've done my part to provide helpful resources to journalists at UCLA. Now looking forward to MY LAST WEEK OF CLASSES! oh yikes yikes yikes. No turning back now.
